Humanitarian advocacy for Afghanistan has been a crucial aspect of ASEF’s work to support the Afghan people in their time of need. With decades of conflict, natural disasters, and political turmoil, Afghanistan has experienced immense suffering, and millions of its people are in need of basic necessities such as food, shelter, and healthcare. Our humanitarian advocacy has aims to raise awareness of these urgent needs, and to mobilize resources and support to address them. This includes advocating for the protection of human rights, promoting peace and stability, and supporting local organizations and initiatives that are working to improve the lives of Afghan people. Through sustained advocacy efforts, it is possible to build a more just and equitable future for Afghanistan, and to ensure that the voices and needs of its people are heard and addressed by the international community.
Below are some of the works that ASEF has engaged on in the past
ASEF provided 24 households in Qalai Bahadur Khan, Kabul, with direct access to clean water through a new piping system from the local town well. This project improves health and hygiene by reducing the risk of waterborne diseases and saves time, particularly for women and children who previously had to travel long distances for water. It marks a major step toward resolving the area’s water shortages, contributing to a healthier and more sustainable future for the community.
ASEF initiated a project to provide clean water access to 2,500 people living on the mountain top of De-Afghanan, Kabul, where droughts and pollution had severely limited water availability. Prior to the project, residents had to travel down the mountain daily to fetch or buy water for basic needs. With this initiative, water will be piped directly to their homes, improving access and quality of life, and the project is expected to be completed by February 2025.
In 2024, Afghanistan faced a devastating flood across multiple provinces, with Baghlan province being hit the hardest. ASEF promptly responded to provide emergency food packages to around 700 low income flood victims in Baghlan Afghanistan.
In 2023, a devastating earthquake struck Afghanistan, claiming more than 3,000 lives, injuring over 9,000 people, and destroying around 1,350 homes. This tragedy highlights the urgent need for support, resilience, and rebuilding efforts across affected communities.
The “Small Acts of Kindness” project, launched in September 2024, is an ongoing weekly initiative that provides vital aid to vulnerable communities in Afghanistan, focusing on individuals and families in desperate need of food, shelter, medicine, or surgery. The initiative has supported disabled individuals, widows, orphans, and marginalized groups with essentials like winter clothing, medical care, and financial assistance. By addressing immediate needs and offering hope, the project has positively impacted dozens of families, providing critical support during times of immense hardship.
In the blessed month of Ramadan, ASEF distributed 6550 Ramadhan meals across Afghanistan in the provinces of Balkh, Parwan, Baghlan, Nangarhar, Laghman, Kunar and Kabul. Some 4200 meals were distributed at the Indira Gandhi Children’s Hospital, a hospital that caters to low income households from across the country.
In addition, around 700 people in Kabul were provided a one month supply of uncooked food packages.
